Mr Carl Avery

In 2010 I was presented with a window of opportunity when my beautiful baby girl Cora was born. My wife Natalie was the breadwinner and we decided that I would become a stay at home father while she went back to work. This allowed me to say goodbuy to the life of an Electrician and open a new door that presented the world as my studio.

I hold an absolute burning desire too see the world and every country in it. I’m convinced there’s a conspiracy at work as every time I knock one off the list, another one seems to appear, it’s like an ever expanding monster that never stops growing! I‘m so lucky to have travelled extensively, encompassing all continents and over 90 countries; yet feel that I have only scratched the surface.

I have an urge to capture and portray the world as I see it in my minds eye. A kind of childish progression from playing out Phileas Fogg. However, in this edition I get to play with some really cool toys, mingle amongst fascinating cultures and visit remarkable landscapes…

I photograph largely untouched communities within their natural environments in a challenging and unique way. Capturing chapters of visually engaging and thought provoking images that scratch deeper from different perspectives.

I think of my photography as a cocktail of ambient and artificial light infused with an isolated subject and a little craziness. I have a will and desire to improve and create.

I was extremely proud to be awarded Associate of the Royal Photography Society (APRS) in March 2016, for my work on Ethiopia.

I am not a photojournalist, I am not a documentarian. I embrace the world of Photoshop as a 21st century gift that allows us to transport our artwork to another level, however, I rarely manipulate the truth behind an image

Finally, I believe in a worldwide mandate where ever country and community should be obliged to build a British pub serving up the worlds finest premium ales alongside a menu of Chicken Madras & Dusseldorf Schwenkbraten, and showing back to back coverage of the Cool Runnings movie. I’ve cloned David Attenborough and installed him as head Bar Tender.

This is me in a nutshell…
