Professor Eirik Johan Solheim

I am a professor in orthopedic surgery working part-time as a photographer (at Silkfactory Inc - a small photography business managed by my wife, Janne Hegna). I make photographs for stock, fine art prints for exhibitions and sale, and photo books.

You may see images from our latest exhibition here...

Growing up with (industrial and furniture) designer parents (and with a brother and a sister later walking the same path) I spent large parts of my childhood drawing, painting and playing with modelling clay.

My interest in photography started when I was 8 years old and my grandmother gave me a small box camera (Zeiss Baby-Box Tengor 54/18) that I still have. At school I attended a class in darkroom techniques.

Until 2008 I shot film (mostly diapositives). I acquired my first digital DSLR camera in 2008 - a D300 - and have been shooting Nikon since (and have become a member of Nikon Professional Services). Lately, I bought a Nikon F on eBay and have started shooting film again for some projects.
