Mr Jagdish Patel

I am a British born Indian, raised in the Midlands. I work as a photographer, filmmaker and researcher.

My work is firmly located within the realms of portrait and documentary photography, though I depart from the documentary genre by using socially engaged art practice to work in collaboration with my subjects. I am keen to ensure that the process of making images is empowering for the participant to the project.

Over the past few years I have undertaken projects with people from the Gypsy community in Derbyshire and Lincolnshire, Portuguese farm workers in Lincolnshire, people with mental ill health, victims of racial violence across England, and Punjabi bar owners in the Black Country.

I am an Associate member of the Royal Photography Society (RPS), the international art collective, ‘Blank Atlas’, Nottingham Photographrs' Hub, and Primary Studios in Nottingham. In 2017 I helped establsih the Nottingham Photo Social, a monthly meet up for photographers from across the region.
