Mr John Bebbington

I have been interested in insects and plants from a very early age and began to photograph them seriously after joining the Field Studies Council as an ecology tutor in1970. I met Michael Proctor FRPS in the early 1970s and he was an excellent mentor, guiding me towards my Associateship in 1978 and my Fellowship in 2001.

The value of good photographs in teaching soon became evident and I began to amass a collection of images of landscapes and habitats as well as plants and invertebrates.

I began leading photography courses in 1979 and have taken groups to the Dordogne, the Eastern Pyrenees, the Swis Alps and South Australia.

I retired  in 2004 after 34 years with the Field Studies Council. I purchased my first DSLR - A Pentax K10D - in 2007. I have stayed with Pentax as all my lenses and accessories work with their DSLRs, and now use a K-5 and a K-3.

I still teach closeup and macro photography and my book 'Insect Photography - Art and techniques' was published by Crowood Press in 2012. My most recent project was to provide most of the photographs for my wife's book 'Understanding the Flowering Plants - a Guide for Botanical Artists and Illustrators', which was published by Crowood Press in late 2014 and has been adopted by the Society of Botanical Artists as a text for their Diploma course.

I am currently serving my fourth term on the A&F panel in the Natural History category.
