The winners of the eighth Arte Laguna Prize 2014 have been announced. In the Photography Section the winner was Victoria Campillo from Barcelona, Spain, for her work Gardens.
The jury explained the motivation for selecting her work: 'The work was awarded for the originality of the subject, the ability to translate pre-existing structures of daily use into images, turning them into a conceptual work, with an ironic approach to the history of contemporary art.'
The jury who selected them - chaired by Igor Zanti, director of IED and curator - includes some names of the international art scene: Enrico Bettinello, Italy, director of Teatro Fondamenta Nuove; Silvia Ferri de Lazara, Italy, director of Fondazione March; Victoria Lu, China, creative director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Taiwan, Domenico Quaranta, Italy, critic and curator; Veeranganakumari Solanki, India, independent curator and art writer; Miguel Amado, Portugal, curator of the Portuguese pavilion at the 55th Venice Biennale; Sabrina Van Der Ley, Norway, Contemporary Art department at Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo; Andrea Viliani, Italy, director of Museum MADRE in Naples; Jonathan Watkins, Great Britain, director of Ikon Gallery; Claudia Zanfi, Italy, art historian and cultural manager.
The winners, one for each section of the Prize – Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Video art and Performance, Virtual Art – were awarded a cash prize of 7,000 Euros each.
