Media Release: Humanitarian Photographer Giles Duley in Bath
Bath, 8 January 2014 -- Photographer Giles Duley HonFRPS will be visiting Bath in February to discuss his work and to support the work of Emergency UK which provides surgical and medical assistance to the victims of war, land mines and poverty.
Duley, the subject of a recent Channel 4 documentary, was embedded with the US army in Afghanistan, in February 2011 when he stepped on an IED. The explosion left him with horrific injuries and ultimately - a triple amputee. He was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of The Royal Photographic Society in 2013.
On Thursday, 13 February Duley will talk about his photography and experiences, in a special evening titled ‘Becoming the Story’. He will take questions and sign copies of his Journal. The event starts at 6.30pm at St Michael’s Church, St Michael’s Church, Broad Street, Bath, BA1 5NS. Tickets are £15 (concessions £10). The Bath branch of Emergency will be raising funds for Emergency at the Pump Rooms on Friday, 14 February where Giles Duley will be the after dinner speaker at a Valentine Ball. Tickets cost £65 and are available from Emergency UK, e: email@example.com or telephone: 01225 859834.
Between 13-19 February Bath’s Royal Literary and Scientific Institution, Queen Square, Bath, will hold an exhibition of Duley’s photography. Titled Afghanistan 2012 the selling exhibition will raise funds for the Giles Duley Fund to support his rehabilitation and the work of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Charity, Birmingham.
