Shooting the Northern Lights

In the Media

Interested in photographing the Northern lights? The BBC have launched a new interactive guide on what they are and how to find them.

There is also an accompanying flickr group of pictures of the lights and other images of the night sky (including some lovely star trails shots), which have been taken by the public.

The guide was based on a trip by BBC Weather Presenter Carol Kirkwood to the top of Scotland to see if she could catch a glimpse of the aurora borealis. During her journey she met solar scientist Lucie Green and local expert Barry Stewart, who both gave Carol advice on how she could give herself the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights in the UK.

The interactive guide which tells her story through video, text, images and a map can be found here

The BBC Sky at Night flickr page featuring images taken by members of the public can be found here.
