RPS Member Wins IYL Competition

21 January 2015

RPS Member Paul Reiffer ARPS, has had his image, 'Over the Rainbow, selected as the winner from over 800 entries to the International Society of Optics & Phonetics (SPIE) International Year of Light (IYL) photo contest.  His image, which is also currently showing in The Society’s International Print Exhibition at the Royal Albert Hall in London, is a 35-second exposure of Shanghi’s Nanpu Bridge at night.  It was said that ‘the movement and complexity of the man-made light in the photo was judged to most effectively illustrate the goal of ILY 2015 as well as light in everyday life, the contest theme.’ Details here.

IYL 2015 officially launched on Monday with a two-day opening ceremony at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, attended by the RPS President, Derek Birch ASIS HonFRPS.  IYL2015 aims to promote the worldwide awareness and importance of light, its science and technologies. The Society will be launching a special outdoor exhibition, as part of its contribution to IYL2015, later this month.
