The World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) in partnership with the Italian Chapter of the Royal Photographic Society (CIRPS) is inviting amateur photographers under the age of 26 (born after 1 January 1989) to visit and capture pictures of their local food market.
The organisers are looking for images that show the economic, cultural, social, environmental, entrepreneurial and technological dimensions of food markets, in any country of the world.
Olivio Argenti FRPS coordinator of the competition said: "Anyone who visits local food markets with a camera or smartphone is encouraged to submit their images showing the diversity and breadth of produce that markets sell around the world. The selectors will be looking for visually strong images that convey the photographer's personal appreciation of local food markets."
The best individual image will receive a prize of $1500, medal and book and there are individual prizes of $100.
The jury includes UK photographer Simon Roberts HonFRPS, WUWM Honorary Chair Carlo Dianzani, RPS CIRPS President Olivio Argenti FRPS, Clare Harris, editor of the RPS Journal, and others from the photography world.
The deadline for entries is 31 March 2016 and the winners will be announced on 30 April 2016.
