Photoblock 2016

Exhibitions, Society news

Now in its third year, PHOTOBLOCK is an exciting mix of photographic shows - including the launch of the Society's International Print Exhibition 159 - reflecting both contemporary and traditional forms of practice. The exhibitions will take over the Old Truman  Brewery on Brick Lane, with eight different events taking place across the expansive warehouse backdrop.

The Royal Photographic Society returns with their touring International Print Exhibition 159. Now in its 159th edition, it is the longest running exhibition of its kind in the world. The exhibition showcases an eclectic mix of work and gives a fascinating insight into the range and diversity of photographic work being created today.

The Association Of Photographers Awards and Exhibition is the photography party of the year, attended by photographers, agents, producers, editors - always a fun chance for the industry to get  together and celebrate the talent of the year. The awards party is ticketed and there will also be the opportunity to come and view the exhibition, listen to talks and participate in the workshops  on offer across the weekend – see website for further information.

Visitors to PHOTOBLOCK will be able to walk freely between the other adjacent shows, with The British Press Photographers Association setting up alongside the AOP. The BPPA are launching a major new exhibition 'Assignments', showcasing the work of their members. British press photographers are some of the best in the world, and here the public will get a chance to see how powerful a good press photograph really can be.

Following on from the BPPA show there will be features from PhotoVoice an award-winning charity that uses photography for positive social change.

Alongside the RPS show PHOTOBLOCK visitors can then wander through to see a curated exhibition of  inspiring new talent at PHOTOMASTERS. PHOTOMASTERS features work from recent MA Photography  Graduates and Students from universities all across the UK, including Goldsmiths, Royal College of Art, Central Saint Martins, UCA Rochester, Leeds University, Kingston, Anglia Ruskin, Newport and UEL.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of Dray Walk, Tommy Clarke's solo exhibition 'Up in the Air' will feature stunning photographs revealing a new aerial perspective of some of the most beautiful locations on earth, including France, Mexico and Australia. And the South West Graduate Portrait Prize presented by Fotonow, will feature works by Samuel Kaye (Falmouth University), Jacob King (University of Gloucestershire), India Rose Catto (University of West of England), Hannah Wright (Falmouth University), Claire Masters (Plymouth University), Mimi Chambre (Arts University Bournemouth) and Alex Ingram (University of West of England).
