Creative Skillset: A proposed Photographer Apprenticeship Standard

13 February 2017

Industry news

Creative Skillset has appointed Carole Sartain to seek feedback from the photography industry on a proposed photography apprenticeship scheme.  It wishes to ensure that any future scheme is widely accepted and is as occupationally broad as possible to maximise the extent of transferable skills and to meet industry needs. Views and input from as broad a group of industry respondents as possible are sought.

The Future Photographer Apprenticeship in England

Apprenticeship programmes are already successful and provides proven benefits to both employers and apprentices. For apprentices, it can equip them with the skills needed for a successful career and be a genuine alternative to going to university or even an opportunity to combine an apprenticeship with higher education. For employers, it can provide a highly efficient and effective means of developing the skills of their workforce.

Employers working together (Trailblazer Groups) design the standards and assessment plans for apprenticeships.  They are a key feature of the new system, as it leads to apprenticeships that are higher quality and more relevant to industry.

The Creative Skillset Photographer Trailblazer Group is in an embryonic stage of development; however, the group has passed its first milestone of gaining government approval to move forward with producing those standards.

The Trailblazer Group is seeking views from people working in the photographic industry to compile a set of standards which meet the practical needs of industry.  You can therefore influence the future of photographic training by completing the questionnaire at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/77MP39P.

There is no commitment to you or your business; but if you would like to become actively involved in the group or would like more information please contact the Photographer Trailblazer Group Chair, Frank Tomlinson FBIPP at frank.tomlinson122@mod.uk.

By completing the questionnaire, you will have a direct influence on the future of photographic training.
