Tom Stoddart HonFRPS presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award

Tom Stoddart Hon FRPS was recently presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the UK Picture Editors Guild at a dinner held at the Honourable Artillery Company in the City of London. The accolade honours Stoddart's award-winning work as a photojournalist over nearly 50 years.

Tom, who was born in Northumberland started work as a junior photographer at the Berwick Advertiser aged 17 and eventually moved to Fleet Street to work on national newspapers. During a long and varied career he has witnessed such international events as the war in Lebanon, the fall of the Berlin Wall, the election of President Nelson Mandela, the bloody siege of Sarajevo and the wars against Saddam Hussein in Iraq. His work has appeared regularly in publications such as the Sunday Times Magazine, Time, Newsweek, Stern and other publications. Six years ago Tom left London to return to his native Northumberland although his work still takes him away on foreign assignments.

Tom said, "I was stunned when my name was called out during the evening as I had no idea it was going to happen. I feel very honoured and privileged because the award comes from my peers within the industry"
