The Royal Photographic Society in partnership with The Photographic Angle has announced two £3000 (approx US $4600) bursaries to support a photographic project that will promote environmental awareness.  The bursaries are available for 16-25 year olds and 26 year old and above and are open internationally. They are intended to assist with travel expenses, photographic equipment and other project-related costs. Applicants should have a clear objective and outcomes as part of their application.   

Announcing the bursaries The Royal Photographic Society’s Director-General Dr Michael Pritchard commented: “The Society is pleased to work with The Photographic Angle in assisting young and established photographers to produce new work that raises awareness of environmental issues. Supporting and encouraging photographers is a key objective for both The Society and The Photographic Angle and there are few issues more urgent than the environment which need to be brought to wider attention. Photography is the perfect medium to do this.”

Curator, Bryony Purvis of The Photographic Angle commented: “TPA is delighted to collaborate with the Society to support and nurture this vital area of photographic practice. The contribution of photographers towards promoting awareness and inspiring positive action to protect the environment is invaluable.”

The Royal Photographic Society was established in 1853 to promote the art and science of photography. It is an educational charity and has an extensive programme of events and activities across the UK and abroad. As part of its education remit it offers a number of bursaries to suport photographers in realising photographic projects. The Society is the UK’s largest photographic membership organisation.

The Photographic Angle TPA advances education for the public benefit, in particular in the art and science of photography and its theory and practice. It holds free exhibitions that travel across the UK transforming vacant spaces into temporary galleries. The exhibitions showcase the contemporary work from students, graduates and enthusiasts of the art of photography giving the public the chance to see the current practices from this dynamic field. TPA provides a number of bursaries to talented students at UK universities.
