  • Bath, UK, 20 February 2013 – The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) in partnership with the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) has put out a call for the world’s best scientific images. The closing date for entries has been extended to 15 April 2013.

Scientists creating images for their work and photographers making images to record science in all its aspects are encouraged to submit images. 100 of the best – selected by scientists, photographers, and those working in the field – will be included in an exhibition that will open in Newcastle in September 2013 as part of the British Science Festival and will then tour the UK and Europe.

Exhibition coordinator, Dr Afzal Ansary, commented: “The 2011 exhibition was an overwhelming success reflecting the quality of the images selected. It was seen at the Edinburgh Science Festival, the Palace of Westminster, Royal Albert Hall and at educational establishments in the UK and Europe.

The exhibition was a great showcase for the work that scientists do and how they use photography to support research and diagnosis. In addition the images are frequently beautiful and fascinating works of art at the same time”.

The Royal Photographic Society has exhibited  scientific photography since 1854. The first International Images of Science Exhibition was held in 2011 coordinated by Dr Afzal Ansary.
