Portfolio TWO is coming!

Due to be published in the autumn of next year, 2010, PORTFOLIO TWO will be similar in format to the successful PORTFOLIO ONE, published in 2007. It will include features on the work of award winning photographers and eminent members … there will be sections on Distinctions showing a wide variety at all levels … Groups, Regions, Overseas Chapters … selections from Society Exhibitions … work from imaging science. And a look at the RPS Collection, linking with the 2009 Visual Literacy Conference, The Real Thing? - Staging, Manipulation and Photographic Truth, together with a view of infrared photography on the 100th anniversary of first publication in The Journal. All articles will be image-led.

All members have been invited to submit their best images for inclusion in PORTFOLIO TWO’s large Members’ Gallery. Your pictures are important to us. As it is intended to show the strength of The Society today, our editorial team looks forward to reviewing images which have been produced since January 2007.

It is hoped that the submissions will show an even wider diversity of approach, from all areas of photography: art, journalism, commercial, technical, science and industrial, and from both amateurs and professionals - even appropriately challenging images created on mobile phones!

Those who have their images included in the Members’ Gallery will receive a free copy of PORTFOLIO TWO in recognition of their contribution. No fee will be paid.

PORTFOLIO TWO will be a high quality, hard bound book, in full colour, that members will be proud to own, a contemporary record of The Society’s activities, and a powerful incentive to others to join a society that is recognised worldwide.

All genres of photography are welcomed for submission. It is intended to have as wide a variety of images as possible, but we need a wide range of imagery to be submitted to achieve this. Whether professional or amateur, art or science, we hope that you have submitted your work.

With an anticipated publication price of £30 plus p&p, PORTFOLIO TWO will be offered at a reduced price to those who commit to purchase pre-publication, which will be in ample time for Christmas 2010, making it an ideal gift. High demand is again expected, and pre-publication information will be detailed in future issues of the Journal, and at www.rps.org.

PORTFOLIO TWO Members’ Gallery

NOTE: The closing date below has now passed (although a few extra days were included to allow for postal delays) - these details are retained for information.

Members may submit up to six images to be considered for inclusion in PORTFOLIO TWO by 31 Oct 2009. Images may be submitted as digital files, transparencies or darkroom prints but not a mix. Digital files must be submitted on CD and should be named as: initial, family name and brief title, eg R Reynolds. Eagle.

For editorial selection, digital files should be submitted in Jpeg format, with a maximum pixel size of 1024 (horizontal) x 768 (vertical), preferably in sRGB colour space.

For best quality printed reproduction, it would be helpful to have an additional file with as many of the designer’s requirements as you can achieve in your software: 8-bit, single layer Tiffs; 300ppi, with the longest side of a landscape format 210mm, and of a portrait format image 215mm, in Adobe RGB.

As the Portfolio is intended to show current photography, you are asked to submit images produced after 1 Jan 2007.

All CDs will be destroyed after publication of PORTFOLIO TWO. Return postage and suitable packaging for return are required for return of prints and transparencies.

The form for members to submit images is available by clicking here.
