Personal Statement

I purchased my first camera in 1984 an Olympus Trip 35m, which I still use occasionally today. In 2012 I graduated from Plymouth College of Art with BA (Hons) in Photography. In September of 2012, I achieved the required standard and was enrolled as an Associate of The Royal Photographic Society. I record my photographs with Nikon digital technology, or with a Fuji medium format rangefinder camera using a variety of emulsions. The Negatives are then scanned, colour corrected and retouched. All of my photographs are printed on Fuji fine art photo rag paper, using Epson inks that are guaranteed to last 100 years. I currently life and practise from Plymouth.

My practise is a visual investigation of the Landscape. I am interested in the relationship between the environment and the land. Man’s use of the land and traces that man has left in the land. How nature reacts with the land and how nature reclaims the land from man’s dereliction. My photographs allow the viewer to become immersed in the landscape I have photographed. The viewers’ senses become aroused so that they feel that they are apart of that landscape, subconsciously they can touch, feel and smell all that is pictured in the photograph.

My other areas of speciality include the photographing of contemporary craft items. Glass is notoriously hard to photograph. My clients have used my photographs to promote themselves. Many of these artists have gone on to win prestigious awards within their own craft field. I am also interested in photojournalism and music photography. The portfolio of images that I have selected reflect my current practise and interests.
