Heather lives currently in Solva, Pembrokeshire, where she owns and runs a gallery and café in a converted chapel with her partner, Cuban artist Raul Speek.
Her interest in photography began at an early age when her father encouraged her to take black-and-white images, which he then taught her to develop and print in a makeshift darkroom in their home. She has continued to print her own black-and-white images over the years, but has now moved largely to digital work as part of designing books and websites for herself and the gallery.
A Level Photography; practical work in advertising photography and selective short courses in specialist areas have been backed up with vast practical experience. A degree at Cambridge in English Literature and a subsequent training in psychotherapy encouraged self knowledge and a willingness to explore and experiment with her own style in the creative medium of photography. Current body of work includes detailed studies of Wales, extensive travel photography featuring culture, foods and vistas, still life and a particular love for candid portraiture. Founder member of ARTists Pembrokeshire and one of four people running and writing for ARTicle—see www.artpembrokeshire.co.uk. Books ‘Travels with my Camera’ and ‘Pembrokeshire Promise' and under production ‘A Cuban Diary’. Writings: illustrated articles for British Freelance Photography Newsletter and for Pembrokeshire Life. Images marketed as Cards by Holy Mackerel from April 2010 and in galleries and information centres across the UK.
