Martin Murphy

About five years ago, I developed an interest in photography. Friends of mine had started a newspaper in Dublin called The Epoch Times. This paper was originally published in Chinese in New York and was started as the only Chinese language newspaper not running Chinese Communist party propaganda; it was also a vocal critic of the human rights abuses in China. It has since grown to be a beacon of human rights and social injustice in thirty cities and twelve languages.

Coincidentally when I decided to study more about photography the photographers whose works I thought were most interesting were Martin Munkasci, Robert Capa and Andre Kertesz all of whom were Jewish and had to flee Europe during the Nazi period prior to World War II, so the theme of using photography to highlight human rights abuses was the same.

My current exhibition entitled, "The Camera Never Lies, Falun Dafa is good." is a collection of photographs taken between the periods of 2004 to 2007. They cover events organised by Falun Dafa practitioners both in Dublin and New York which were organised to let the world know of the persecution of Falun Dafa in China. My portfolio here contains most of the images from the exhibition.

My hope is that via the medium of photography people will want to find out for themselves the truth about the practise. The exhibition started in the Berkley Library, Trinity College Dublin. It is currently touring around Ireland mostly in libraries.
