Herbert Housley ARPS

Born in Sheffield in 1925 I left school in 1939 at the age of 14 and joined my father as an apprentice knife grinder. Apart from 4 years in the RN (1943 to 1947) I worked in the Sheffield cutlery trade until retirement in 1960.  Over the years we progressed from being sub-contract grinders to becoming fully fledged cutlery manufacturers, exporting to many countries.

Since retirement I became heavily involved in charity work for people with learning disabilities and, in the Millenium New Years Honours List, was awarded an MBE for services to the community.

Photography has always been a hobby, second only to golf. I gained my ARPS about 20 years ago and am now fully digital and belong to the RPS Digital Group.  Learning Photoshop is quite a challenge for my age group and I find Dig group members most helpful.
