Hersh Chadha

Professor Hersh Chadha ARPS, born in India, is a landscape photographer and a keen supporter of conservation of nature.  Hersh’s sensitiveness towards the environment reflects in his photography and the results are awe-inspiring art photographs.

Today, recognized for his work on the natural grandeur of the Earth, Hersh has pledged over 45,000 specimens of his visual art to the WWF. The spiritual relationship has also added to itself a new dimension. Concern for the environment and the documentation of how man ravages it, has moved him onto this frontier. This uncompromising concern now brings attention to issues as varied and important as wildlife preservation, protection for the rain forests, the ozone layer, pollution of our waters and air.

Hersh has photographed a variety of landscapes in every imaginable mood and setting. “I believe that photography is an expression that can be used as a reference, a medium where you say what you want without words. You can create a thing of beauty and turn the ordinary into something extraordinary”.

Hersh has authored "Elements, I, II & III", a collection of photographic books that capture nature in its varied moods. He has donated the proceeds from the sale of the Elements series to the WWF. "Elements" can today be found in the prestigious libraries of Harvard and Stanford. Incidentally, some of his works can also be found on the walls of these hallowed halls of learning and in the possession of eminent personalities including several members of the royalty. Hersh has recently published his book of photographs – Hersh Chadha : Visions of Nature.

Hersh is the first founding member from the United Arab Emirates of the ‘1001 A Nature Trust’, which is founded by HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, and helps make possible the work of the world’s largest and most effective nature conservation organization. Hersh is also one of the “Corporate Club” members of World Wide Fund International (WWF) from United Arab Emirates.

Hersh is a visiting professor at the Institute of Journalism, Taras Shevchenko Kiev University, Ukraine, the American University of Central Asia (AUCA), Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, the Kyrgyzstan National University (KNU) and the Institute of the Foreign Languages at the International University of Kyrgyzstan. He has given several lectures and conducted workshops for the students of these universities.

Hersh has photographed in 80 countries and 219 cities.
