Ian White,

I am predominently a landscape photographer.J B Jackson described the landscape as ‘a field of perpetual conflict and compromise’ and my work reflects these ideas. Whilst my photography engages with landscape’s ‘sensuous appeal’ it is also interested in challenging us to think about how we see the world and what the landscape is really about.

People live in and shape the landscape and their landscape tells us much about their lives. I am acutely interested in how people live, how they and the landscape interact with each other.

Landscape is about light, form, colour; it is natural and unnatural, dramatic and calm; it offers us endless images of irony, humour, social commentary and metaphor about the way we live.

These few photographs invite the viewer to consider the landscape in this way; they are a small part of a wider body of work which is continuing to develop. If you would like to discuss these ideas then please do contact me.
