Ian Lindsley

I have been compulsively taking photographs for some 30 years.   As we started to spend most of our holidays walking, landscape and nature became major subjects.  Walking quietens the mind and makes one more aware of your surroundings, this is an ideal preparation for picture taking.
Photography is about looking more deeply at ones surroundings, so every image widens ones personal gallery of ideas and visions providing one is willing to look carefully at the pictures taken.
Portraiture gives the opportunity to design the picture and to control the light.  Initially I thought that I would have to buy studio lights but reading about the Victorian photographers I realised that I could use window light.  The low light levels made me look for simple poses that the model could remain comfortable but still for the relatively long exposures, often up to half a second.   I seldom if ever use flash
At present I am producing a set of pictures on the theme of the ancient elements - earth, water, air and fire
