Portfolio

Darren May LRPS

I was first interested in photography when about 14 or 15 years old with my trusty Pentax P30 (which I still have), but other teenage distractions took me away from my camera and I only picked it up again about 20 years later. It was really the advent of consumer priced digital SLRs that attracted me back, combined with the possibilities of the digital darkroom.

Working full time, there never seems to be enough time for all the photographs I want to take and it is only on holidays or long weekends that I slow down enough to take pictures that I want to keep!

I enjoy photographing most subjects, although by default I've done more in the field of landscapes than any other and I must admit I find candids or anything approaching reportage very challenging. I'd also like to do more portrait work.

I was delighted to be awarded the LRPS distinction in June 2009. Preparing a portfolio of work for assessment and knowing that experienced photographers will really be looking at it, certainly focusses the mind! This achievement will give me the confidence to try more, and more often, with my photography - I'd thoroughly recommend applying for an RPS distinction.
