Christopher Harland

I am a self-employed graphic designer and photography plays an essential part in my work. In the course of designing and producing exhibition stands, graphics and websites I continuously look for arresting images to help produce effective design concepts.

I have been taking pictures most of my life and it all began with the usual cliché - my godmother gave me her old Kodak box camera - but for me, like many other photographers today, the comparatively recent advent of digital photography has been a liberating and re-invigorating experience. The “Digital Darkroom” provides the levels of control once only achieved after hours spent with chemicals and paper.

Most of my landscape pictures are taken around the coastline but especially my local East Yorkshire area. I also like to create abstract pictures and I particularly have a fascination with the designs created by natural reflections.

Some favourite photographers: Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Andreas Gursky, Cartier Bresson, Joe Cornish, Martin Parr.
