Photography is a therapeutic activity for me. I first started taking photographs with a 35mm camera in 1981. I was working in Cornwall at the time and had purchased a second hand rig from a colleague.
I changed to digital and started selling my prints in 2002, after work colleagues kept badgering me to do so having seen the images that I was posting for free at the time on webshots. So I thought...'okay...let's give it a try'.
Since then I have been selling a range of prints and Limited Edition Prints, as well as greeting cards of my images to members of the public, craft stores, galleries and other retail outlets.
Primarily, my mainstay of images convey my connection with the Earth and the ceatures, plants and stones as I see them. All with an energy and vibrance that is the substance of the Universe. An energy that is tangible to those that are open to it.....and I like nothing more than sitting in the wilderness with my camera, feeling connected to all around me...and to photograph anything that may come along.
I have travelled to a few places now with my camera to specifically try to capture the essence of the beauty of places such as Antelope Canyon, in the USA. An area of sandstone canyons carved out by flood waters. Tourists have lost their lives while visiting the attraction when they didn't get out in time. I highly reccomend a visit...but if the guides tell you to get out.....move it!
Northern Sweden was another beautiful place. My first thoughts on flying over the country were that there was so many trees! I thought it was magical...and the lakes....excellent for reflection shots. Throw in majestical mountains and bears....and you've got a wonderful place.
The coldest journey that I undertook was to Michigan, January 2005. What a place! The temprature ranged from between -10 to -30 c. The proper clothing and the right equipment was essential as well as good comms systems in case of getting into trouble. One of the most astounding sights were the frozen waves on the edges of the big lakes. A truly awe inspiring sight. I met three wolves there who were being cared for by humans. You can see their images on the stock images section of the site.
All of my journeys are properly researched to give me the maximum opportunity to photograph the sight I'm after. I also try to establish a link with local people while there as their knowledge is invaluable. Particularly when you meet people who know the wilderness and associated wildlife in an area. To all of those people that have helped, cared for and guided me... I give you my heart felt thanks and hope to meet you again.
I have since expanded my areas of subjects to include action shots (eg surfers and aircraft), portraits of people and portfolios for models.
In April 2005, I joined the Royal Photographic Society. I wanted to belong to a credible organisation in order to promote my art and to extend my knowledge, thus hoping to improve my technique. I subsequently applied for and was recommended for an LRPS following a successful Distinction Panel. I was awarded the LRPS on 30 Oct 05.
My hope is to travel the world and capture many beautiful memories of sights to share with you.
Thank you for visiting my site and viewing my work.
