Statement of intent

The lasting memories that I return with from my travels are of the people I meet along the way and the insight they give me into an ancient and vibrant world.

I travel with a very small group of women, and consequently, I am able to enter environments that would not be accessible to a larger or mixed group of visitors.  Examples are the Rabari people of Kutch in Gujarat, India and the women in the village of  Chandelao, Rajasthan.

In my panel I have tried to capture the people of rural Gujarat and Rajasthan who live an old, traditional lifestyle.  I have also tried to convey the interaction between photographer and subject.

The people I met have a joy and warmth and I hope I have shown the human spirit shining through a simple lifestyle with very few western trappings.
