ARPS Statement of Intent

Cobblers

The Cobb at Lyme Regis is an important historical landmark of the South Coast, an impressively constructed sea defence that once served as a major port. Nowadays, its primary role is to provide safe anchorage for a small fishing fleet and leisure craft against the ever changing weather conditions that prevail.

Here in my panel, I wish to convey what an important role the Cobb plays in peoples everyday lives as a very popular walkway for holidaymakers and locals alike. To achieve this, I have included people in an intentionally anonymous, less intrusive way through choice of viewpoint, focus and/or motion blur wherever possible. The Cobb's popularity as a tourist destination means it has probably been photographed in almost every conceivable way thus presenting a challenge to approach the project in an original manner. I have also used mono prints to graphically reflect the atmosphere of the place with images taken over an extended period.
