John Leslie ARPS

Although I have always enjoyed casual photography, my work retirement coincided with the more general availability of film or slide scanners and inkjet printers.   This rang some bells for me and I was soon involved with my local Grimsby photographic society and the world of competitions, talks, and so on.

Within a couple of years I was giving talks at the cluib myself, mainly on Photoshop techniques, and also in selling articles on those techniques to Digital Photo magazine.   The sale of my local  landscape images to county magazines and to the public soon followed, helped by exhibitions at local galleries and hotels.

The ARPS application proved quite a struggle for me, as landscapes do have a "lacking originality" label.   Eventually I turned to our local dock trading area, where the age, colour and amazing textures of the old buildings gave an opportunity for creative interpretations.

As well as landscapes, underwater photography has always been a keen interest - nowadays mainly in warmer waters such as the Red Sea.   The difficulties and challenges are immense but hugely enjoyable.
