Tamsin Green

Tamsin (London. 1982) is an architect and photographer, a fully qualified member of The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and an Associate of the British Institute of Professional Photographers (ABIPP) and the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS).

 

She was born in London and studied Architecture at University College London (UCL) and Tokyo Institute of Technology. She has practiced as an architect in both Tokyo and London, working on a variety of international projects.

 

It was during her time in Japan that she discovered her passion for deciphering hidden stories within the urban context, experimenting with photography to visualise these narratives and make sense of the curious world we live in. Since then she has been working on personal and commissioned documentary photography projects that explore urban and environmental issues. These have included a series for the Design Museum in London documenting their new premises,The Commonwealth Institute, and a personal series, UnBuilding China, looking at the current practice of ‘un-building’ the fabric of Chinese cities in order to construct the cities of the future. She weaves together multiple photos rather than focusing on the individual image, and has taught and lectured in Paris and London on the idea of narrative and image sequencing as a design tool.

 

She is a world wanderer by nature and has just completed a 3 month journey from London to India by train. Once in India she was commissioned to shoot a humanitarian project by Global Greengrants Fund, an NGO working with grassroots groups to create sustainable livelihoods. This work will form Tamsin’s first solo book, Losing my Train of Thought: An Overland Journey from London to Mumbai.

 

Her ambition for the future is to use the power of photography for good, to cover stories that need telling, working both in a humanitarian capacity for the international NGO community and on documentary commissions that raise awareness.
