Statement of Intent

Grace is a grade 7 ballet student. She has been practicing in this little studio for the past fifteen years. In the years, she has mastered the techniques like posture, alignment, turns, pointing the toes and most important of all to study the spirit of the art.

However, amid the elegance of postures she has demonstrated, I could feel the sufferings she has gone through, the blistering of every toe, the agony of procuring a perfect posture and the uncompromised endurance of staying in focus; are a few examples testament to that. Her passion will not let pain deter her.

With the assistance from her ballet teacher, she continues her quest to complete the training and eventually excel in every aspect of the art. For it means that her head, legs, arms and the rest are in the arrangement demanded.

Watching their performance, we think, “Nothing to it,” but we see not the underlying fortitude, discipline and arduousness that the ballerinas go through for perfection, which I have also depicted in my photographs.
