Dave Coates ARPS
Dave’s initial introduction to photography came via his father who first used a camera hanging out of a Bristol Fighter in Word War One. Starting with a Box Brownie 127 and his introduction to colour slides came in 1959 when his brother came home from Christmas Island with a Voightlander B.
Despite a continuing interest, career and family demands took their toll and it was not until 1984 that he joined Northallerton Camera Club of which he is still a member. Landscape photography has always been Dave’s first love and it was through the inspiration of one of the club’s senior members that he started to make slide shows. He now finds that slide show projects give his photography a sense of direction and motivation.
He joined the RPS in 1992 and gained his Associateship in 1996. He then became interested in International Exhibitions and has gained the AFIAP followed in 2003 by the Masters Award from the PAGB.
Whilst lecturing widely throughout the North of England and further a field he is also a judge for the NCPF of which he currently Vice-President. You can find more about Dave’s and his photography by visiting his web site at http://www.davecoates.org.uk
