Advice of an additional event

No charge for RPS members, £3 for non members. Seats must be booked with Jenny Leathes via email. If people do not own Nikons I am sure they can still learn a lot from this day!

 Advisory Days 14-15th. April

The first task on Saturday was for John Chamberlain to present a Fellowship certificate to Peter Hayes who was the first member to receive a Fellowship in new catagory of Mulimedia and Narrative.

A total of 79 people attended over the 2 days with 35 people having work assessed. Some very good work was seen and several people were advised to put their panels in for assessment. John Chamberlain and Peter McCloskey did an excellent job on advising those attending with sound honest advice given to all.

Field trip to Dartmoor

Only 6 people arrived on a bright sunny day, perhaps the thought of a long walk on  such a day put people off. However we set off towards Hammel Down, after agreeing that the route would be changed and shortened. A climb to the top of Hammel Down via the river valley yielded many images before making a lunch stop overlooking Grimspound. A walk down through the Grimspound settlement, before we made our way back via Natsworthy Woods, a full day was enjoyed and the end of the day was spent photographing 5 inquisitive Alpacas on our way back to the car park.

Regional AGM Sunday 26th February 2012

The Regional AGM took place in Bovey Tracey as usual. 41 members arrived to listen and have their say, a record number. After the usual Officers reports we came on to the election of officers. Jenny Leathes was unanimously re-elected as Regional Organiser, with all other positions as they were with the exception of Sue Brown who had decided not to stand for re-elevction due to many other committments. This was followed by a very good discussion regarding ideas for future events within the Region. Members offered suggestions and these will be looked at by the Committee and some will be incorporated into future programmes. Some discussion regarding various topics was had within any other business, with the meeting concluding a little after 12.00 after which we all adjourned for lunch.

Following the lunch break we were treated to an afternoon of prints form two Western Region members, Tony Cooper ARPS and Peter Phillips LRPS. Two very different styles of work were seen, from some excellent seascapes and landscapes from Peter Phillips, to a more casual style from Tony Cooper. Of particular interest was a selection of images taken the day before last years Royal Wedding, this being the people who were camping out on The Mall, waiting to see the Royal couple.

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon enjoyed by 48 members and friends.

Field trip to Exmouth 8th January 2012

7 members plus 1 non member arrrived at Exmouth on a dry morning, the sun made an appearance later in the day giving some good photo opportunities. The group made their way along the beach to the harbour area, where, before walking around the area, coffee was taken in a local cafe. The marina area set the shutters clicking before we wandered back to The Bath House for a very nice lunch, the highlight of which was watching Mike Bond, who ordered a Yorkshire pudding stack with his roast beef, proceeded to eat all 6 yorkshire puddings plus the one that was on his plate with the meal. It was then decided that 5 of the group would see if there were more images available by walking back to the dunes area, where the sun came out to give low raking light across the sea and some good images were captured. The party disbanded around 4.30 after enjoying an excellent day with good company.

Field trip to Broomhill Gardens, 13.5.12

The RPS Field Trip to Broomhill Sculpture Gardens on 12th May 2012 was attended by 15 photographers. The week preceding the trip had seen foul weather, heavy rain and strong winds. The morning of 12th May was clear blue skies and bright sunshine. Photographers are a bit like farmers, the weather is never quite right! 'Too much contrast' I could hear, 'Burnt out highlights', 'Maybe some clouds will come later'. However, wonderful photographs or not, a thoroughly good day was had by all. The gardens are delightful with a wonderful eclectic arrange of sculptures. We also indulged in the tapas lunch on offer at the house in the gallery room. Oner person was overheard to say 'There is even art in the toilets!' Afternoon tea on the terrace sitting in the sun was a fitting end to a most enjoyable day.
