My career started when I was sixteen years old. At that point I was a hopeful who got lucky with a commercial contract for the Hearts of Oak life assurance company. As a result of that job, I was hired as a trainee wedding photographer, and this was my staple income for the next two years. I then placed an advert in the BJP for situations wanted, and I was picked up by 3M and Litchfield award winner, Rolf Cornell. At the time he was working for SCL in London as an advertising photographer. I moved to London and undertook many prestigious shoots, both as an assistant and as a photographer. Whilst with SCL and Rolf, I learned to use Large Format cameras and build intricate sets for product shots, and simple table top packshots. During this period I saw much work published. I left of my own volition a year later and took up the position of head printer with a laboratory in Hampshire, before moving on to manage a lab in Wiltshire. At the same time I worked for many well known and unknown bands supplementing my income as a music photographer.
In 1994 I moved to Ireland and my career took an unexpected turn in the dramatic arts and journalism. I wrote articles on how to make a living as a freelance music photographer, was the features writer for a Cork based magazine and then moved into theatre, where I had the pleasure of having seven plays produced on radio and stage. I moved further into broadcasting when I started working for RTE on a radio sit-com.
I returned to England in 1999 and began working as freelance photographer again. My experience with image making brought me to the role of Cameraman with an independent television production company. This lead very shortly to me becoming a producer/directory. After three years I left to set-up my own indy, which I ran until January 2009.
In July 2009 I returned to my first love; still photography. I set up a table top pack-shot studio, which is also flexible enough to used for portraits. My recent work includes publicity photographs for promotional material for an up and coming band, as well as private portraits and publicity shots for the likes of David Cameron.
I am thirty-eight, married and thoroughly happy to be back behind the camera.
