1st Volunteer Week Announcement

01 June 2019

Region: Headquarters

Volunteers are invited on a curator’s tour of Space Steps: The Moon and Beyond, with curator Debbie Ireland and photographer Monica Alcazar-Duarte on Friday 5th July, 10:30 - 11:30 at RPS House.

This is a very special exhibition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landings, one of humankind’s greatest achievements.

The exhibition includes:

  • The journey of the Apollo 11 and earlier space exhibitions, along with a look at the crucial role women played in the Apollo space programme.
  • Ascension an interactive installation by photographer Monica Alcazar-Duarte exploring how scientists working across Europe today are engaging in a new space race.
  • The Hasselblad HDC space camera, used by the Apollo astronauts during training will be on display from the 5 – 7 July.
  • On display for the duration of the exhibition is a special Hasselblad camera which travelled on the Mercury-Atlas 8 mission. It is particularly important because it took the first high-quality photographs from Earth orbit.

We have 20 spaces on this exclusive tour, to book your free place please register here.

*Registration closes on Monday 24th June at midday.

If you have any queries regarding the above, please speak with Naomi Galliford, Volunteering Manager - naomi@rps.org.
