21 October 2016
Over 80 guests attended the Private View of the exhibition on the evening of 20 October at the Espacio Gallery, London. There was much socialising and browsing of the 25 photobooks short-listed for exhibition; submitted from a total of 155 from 23 countries. Some attendees had flown in from Germany, Spain, The Netherlands and Brazil and all were full of praise for the organisers and for the RPS for putting on an exhibition reflecting this very popular form of photography of the 21st century.
Winner, second and third awards were presented to their respective book authors by our sponsors Bob Books and RPS medals for these were presented by Society President Walter Benzie.
The exhibition of prints together with an associated photobook by 13 Society members that accompanied the selected photobook exhibition was much appreciated. Both these and the short-listed photobooks covered a very wide range of subjects beyond those commonly seen.
Thanks to everyone for such a great evening; the exhibits were absolutely fascinating and so varied. With a sequence of images and a story line you get a real insight into the photographers mind. So many young people in attendance too - which is a very welcome sight! Thank you for inviting me. I recommend this exhibition to all with an interest in photography. … Walter Benzie
I was there today [the previous day] and all involved deserve congrats. It was also great to see the second placed winner come in all the way from Brazil. … Gareth Hughes
Really enjoyed this - big thanks to the organising team. I loved the winners but my favourite was "Gravette" - lots of images I recognised from my time spent in middle America. I loved the irony - no bars because of the ruling that they could not be located within 1000ft (yards?) of a religious place... by loads of churches dotted around the tiny town. … Sean Goodhart
These books look so tempting...could dive in them … Paola Rigamonti
