The Monday Muse Week 18

04 January 2016

Region: London

The latest weekly amusement from RPS London.  This week, our muse is “start a blog”.

The start of the New Year and it’s time for those photographic resolutions and a resolution that should be on every photographers’ list is to run a photography blog.  You don’t need your own website to launch a blog -  there are now many different easy ways of blogging via packages such as Blipfoto, Blogger, Flickr, Tumblr and Wordpress

One of the most popular ways of blogging is to commit to undertaking a “365” or a “52”, which involve publishing a picture a day or a picture a week, but the frequency of blogging is very much a personal choice, as is the content.  Some of the blogs below tell us what the photographer has been doing recently, others are educational, providing technical tips and tutorials.

There are some useful tips on getting started here from Digital Camera World. For inspiration about the sort of blog you want to produce, have a look at some of the links below.

If you start a blog, let us know via london@rps.org and we’ll start a list of blogs on the London section of the RPS website.

The Monday Muse is an ongoing initiative.  There are no deadlines and you don’t have to take the photographs in the week that the Muse is set.  Once you’ve set up your album, you can add to it any time.  A list of previous Muses can be found here. You don’t have to be a member of the London Region to participate - all-comers welcome!

Monday Muse Info

As the inspirational ideas we posted as part of the Bleeding London project proved to be so popular, we’re going to continue the theme with The Monday Muse.  Every Monday, we’ll be posting an inspirational idea for the week, with links to tips and suggestions on how to achieve the best images.  We’ll be featuring our favourites here on the blog and in our monthly eZine Capital Interest.  And just to add a bit of competition, we’ll be running a points league.  There is one point for posting an image and there will be occasional bonus points.  At the end of the year, whoever has the most points will receive a gift voucher to spend in the RPS shop.

What to do next

Take the first image(s) for your blog.

EITHER upload it to your Monday Muse album in the RPS galleries and send the link to london@rps.org

OR post the image (or a link to it) to the RPS London group on Facebook

OR tweet it (@ The_RPSLonfon; hashtag #rpsmuse)

OR upload to Instagram (hashtag #rpsmuse)

Small Print

Images must be taken after the topic has been announced.  By submitting to The Monday Muse, you agree that we can use your images on the RPS website and in RPS publications.  Copyright remains with the photographer.  Full accreditation will be given.

Great idea! I really like Joel Meyerowitz's blog feed http://oncemorearoundthesun.com/ - I could read it for hours!
