Licentiateship assessment at Backworth Hall

11 May 2014

Region: Northern

On Sunday 11th May 2014 the RPS Northern Region hosted a Licentiateship assessment at Backworth Hall. Twenty seven candidates submitted panels of prints, over 96% were recommended for the distinction.
In my time of direct involvement in LRPS distinctions, over 14 years, I have never seen a set of panels of the quality that was on display. In terms of individual vision and printing most were simply outstanding.
It was no surprise to learn that many of the candidates had recently attended an Advisory Day where they were able to get feedback from panel members. Believe me this is the only way to evaluate a prospective submission. Showing your prints to friends, family and club members is all well and good however it is of little use when deciding what to submit. You need to get feedback from an assessment panel member.
The Northern Region regularly holds Advisory Days, two are planned for next year and anyone thinking about submitting a panel, for either the Licentiateship or Associateship, should definitely ensure they attend. Apart from feedback on their own prints it is of paramount importance that an individual establishes in their own mind exactly what is the required standard.
For Northern Region members, and those further afield, the Advisory Days at Backworth Hall are an opportunity too good to miss.
