Region: South West
Leigh Preston was booked to do the weekend in the South West Region, this took in a lecture talk on the Friday night. This was in his usual style, excellent images, plus the usual comments and humour to keep the audience entertained.
The Saturday morning was bright and sunny and some 25 people arrived at Goodrington for a day of image making, with expert guidance from Leigh. First this, Leigh and Jenny Leathes went off to do a recce of the area, and came back saying they had gained access to Quay West, which was close for refurbishment, but we could have access after a few words from the owner as to some do's and dont's. Quay West is a water park, with large slides and water flumes, which was an opportunity almost impossible to obtain entry to. After a couple of hours, lunch was taken in a nearby cafe, then a stroll along the promenade to photograph beach huts. Along the way the group encountered a group of "pink ladies" doing a charity walk, another unexpected opportunity to take some pictures, then an elderly couple sitting on a bench, a pair of children on their bicycles ring through large puddles, with mothers consent of course, a gentleman with his metal detector on the beach, all courtesy of Leigh's "gift of the gab" in asking these people to help us, and with the promise of some images to be sent to the subjects of our photographs.
The Sunday was a day of Leigh looking at our photographs, giving some advise plus generally being very helpful, a day which turned out to be more of a workshop where everybody had the opportunity of some advice.
At about 3.30 pm we went on our way home, all happy and having benefitted from an excellent weekend with a photographer who is happy to impart his knowledge and to ensure everyone got something from his expertise.
