About Us

The RPS produces a range of publications. The Journal is the world’s oldest photography magazine and all members receive a free monthly copy of the latest issue. Members that have joined a Special Interest Group may also benefit from receiving regular topical Group magazines

History

The Royal Photographic Society’s Journal is the world’s oldest photography magazine, having been in continuous publication since 1853. Thanks to the generosity of a member and the support of the National Media Museum, Bradford, the entirety of the Journal’s archive from 1853 to 2012 has been digitised – over 30,000 pages. Fully searchable, this is a major resource for photo-historians, genealogists and Society members. Click here to find out more about the Journal’s history.

The RPS Journal today

The Journal was relaunched in 2014 with more pages, a more regular publication date (now monthly) and an updated design and editorial style. These changes allow the Journal to tell you more about the abilities and interests of Society members, as well as to entertain, inform, and celebrate the wider world of photography. Stay up-to-date with monthly book reviews, technical articles, showcases and interviews with members and non-members from around the world.
