EVENT OVERVIEW

The Royal Photographic Society Digital Imaging

Group is delighted to announce a one day national

event aimed primarily at our DIG members, but all

RPS or non-RPS photographers are also very welcome

to join us.

This is a multi choice event with 5 sessions in the

main theatre plus workshop studios for portrait and

flower photography. The annual DIG print and projected

image exhibitions will be on display.  The RPS

Distinctions department are offering booked Advisory

sessions for LRPS & ARPS panels (excludes Nature).

If you are a DIG or RPS member who is booking and paying for other non-RPS family or friends then their tickets must be paid at the full £35 p.p. rate.  We ask that you respect this otherwise it will cause unreasonable work to sort out when we discover the error.

Note *  -  DIG members can book a second ticket for their partners at the concession price of £25.00

Attending this one to one Advisory session will give you the opportunity to discuss your images with two Fellows of the Society, in a professional but friendly atmosphere.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Tim Flach

 

Tim Flach is a photographer who is best known for his stylized portraits of animals.
His work is driven by a desire to better communicate stories of the natural world and explore questions of art and science.
In recognition of his work, he has received numerous awards including an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society, an Honorary Doctorate from UAL and Norwich University of the arts in 2013. His photographs are showcased in books, exhibitions and galleries around the world
Endangered is Flach’s fifth book (release date October 2017), following Equus (2008), Dogs Gods (2010),More Than Human (2012) and Evolution (2013)
He works in London, where he lives with his wife and son.

 

 

Nick Turpin

Nick Turpin grew up in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire coming to London to study for a degree in Photography, Film and Video at The University of Westminster. At the age of twenty Nick left his degree course to become the youngest full-time photographer on a national broadsheet newspaper in the UK, spending seven years shooting news, features and portraits for The Independent. Nick is a self-proclaimed ‘Street Photography Evangelist’ and has spread his belief in the importance of Street Photography as a distinct approach through books, exhibitions, workshops, TV, radio and lecturing.

Paul Sanders

Paul Sanders been a professional photographer since 1984, after beginning his career as a fashion and advertising photographer. He moved into newspapers in 1991, starting at The Daventry Express.

In 2002 he joined The Times and became Picture Editor in 2004. In this prestigious role he oversaw the entire visual look and feel of the paper as it transitioned from broadsheet to the compact format.  http://www.paulsanders.biz/

 

 

Polina Plotnikova

I am a Russian-born UK-based photographer. I studied at Moscow State University and later at Christie's Modern Art Studies program in London. I worked in Image Libraries for over 10 years, dealing with great images produced by the most successful commercial and fine art photographers

One of my favourite subjects is flower photography.

The approach to flower photography that I take is somewhat similar to that of a portrait photographer - for every flower and plant that I photograph, I always try to find its unique look, study its mood and character, and ultimately unlock the hidden beauty of my models.  http://www.polinaplotnikova.com/

 

 

Gary Evans

Gary Evans ASIS FRPS studied scientific photography at the Polytechnic of Central London before joining the photographic industry. After working as a technical adviser for both Nikon and Minolta, he joined the Science Photo Library in 1991. Since 2015 he has been the Society’s Science Exhibition Coordinator, organising the popular International Images for Science Exhibition.

 

 

 

 

David Clapp

David Clapp is one of the UK’s most successful landscape, travel and architectural photographers. A jack of all trades, he began working as a writer, contributing imagery and words for photography magazines. This lead to a career as a full time professional in 2009, amassing a strong position as a global stock photographer.

Brian Collier

Brian has worked at The Flash Centre in Birmingham for the past 12 years as the Assistant Manager. He has been in the photo trade for over 35 years! Kodak, Fuji and BIPP award winner in the Prolab world. Brian has done hundreds of studio installations and has done Demo’s at Camera Clubs, Colleges and University’s across the world. He is also a Trainer for Aspire.

EXHIBITION DETAILS

Each year the RPS Digital Imaging Group holds two members only competitions – one print and the other projected images. We hope you will find time during your busy day to stroll around and admire the very varied work of DIG members from both the UK and Overseas. 

All the selected members’ prints for 2017 will be displayed, along with a rolling presentation of the accepted projected images for 2017.  The PI Comp overall trophy winner will be presented with the Trophy at DI Expo.  

 

RAFFLE

With thanks to our trade organisations there will be a spectacle of great prizes to be won on the day.

 

DIGIT event catalogue

DIGIT is the quarterly magazine of the DI Group and is highly acclaimed for both the quality of articles and production. 

Issue No 73 (June 2017) will double up as our DI Expo event catalogue. 

If you are a DIG member then you will receive a copy of this special edition DIGIT in the normal way and time.  It will provide you with even more information about the event than we have room for here. There will be articles and images from our keynote speakers. The attending trade will have adverts.

Copies of this edition of DIGIT will also be on sale at the DI Expo for non-DIG members to buy and enjoy.

TICKET BOOKING

Online ticketing will commence from 1st February 2017

The primary way to book your meeting ticket(s) is via the RPS Online booking system.  First, whether you are an RPS member or not, you must have registered with the RPS site.   Then you need to go to the Booking page http://www.rps.org/events/2017/september/23/digital-imaging-expo-2017 and book the correct ticket(s).

Once your event booking is complete and paid for you receive an email confirmation.

For those unable to book online we can accept booking forms and cheque payments via the post.  Email digexpo@rps.org for the booking form or contact Rex Waygood on 01425 673216 if you do not have email.  However we ask that wherever possible the event be booked online as this minimises errors and work.

You can book sessions for the Portrait and Flower presenters. Use the "Book by post" pdf on the booking page.

WHEN DO I GET MY TICKETS?

Event ticket                

  • Immediately you have completed your online order and payment. This will be emailed to you on the email address you have provided.
  • Please bring this with you to DI Expo as proof of purchase.

REFRESHMENTS

Drinks will be available throughout the day in the main DI Expo foyer and in the adjacent hotel restaurant bar. 

The lunch time snack packs will be available from  12.45 in the hotel bar.  See Resource Pack for details.  We will be ordering a selection of sandwich fillings for you to select from.  This will be on a first come basis so if you do not get your preferred filling choice then you will have to accept whatever is left.

As like most establishments that offer food, the hotel does not "encourage" you to bring your own food. Apart from the snack lunches we are offereing, the hotel offers a choice of hot food from the bar or the restaurant. We would suggest that you contact the hotel staff on arrival. to make arrangements if you want hot food.

HEALTH &SAFETY

An H&S assessment will be conducted of the facilities and hotel staff will be on hand to guide and help us throughout the day.

Please be cognisant of the safety of others and do not leave bags or equipment sitting around for others to fall over.
