SIG: Documentary

Glyn Powell-Evans submitted this Enthralling image for the December round of the Documentary Group's bi-monthly competition (link). The image had some great scores from our judging panel so we wanted to share it with a wider audience.

Hi, Glyn. Can you give us a little background about the shot?

The shot is part of a photo essay I am working on currently “I do like to be beside the Sea”. I plan to submit this as my ARPS panel in a few months’ time.

What was your plan for the day?

I had a list of possible subjects that would fit the theme, if I am lucky I get 1 or 2 images per day at the Seaside.

What’s your routine just before heading out with your camera?

Think through my objectives and re-check I have all the kit I need.

While you’re out what makes you press the shutter release?

It sounds trite but I am always looking for the decisive moment.

Where can we find more of your work?

I have a lot of my current work on my personal website (link)

What do you think photographers don’t do but should?

Take more photos rather than worrying about the latest equipment (I should heed this advice myself!)

What’s the best purchase you’ve made for less than £100?

My Hoodman HoodLoupe® Outdoor Loupe which cost about £70 however I see it is over £100 on Amazon now.

Thanks for the great advice Glyn, I'm always trying to remind myself of that too. If you would like your work to feature in a future edition, please email us ( ).
