St Alban Pilgrimage Day

June 20th 2026

The Albans Pilgrimage commemorates the martyrdom of Alban, England’s first saint. The procession, involving 12-foot high carnival puppets, starts from St Peter’s Church and the various elements are marshalled on the streets leading to the roundabout. This offers numerous photo possibilities before the parade starts officially at 11am. It proceeds along St Peters Street to the museum , where the magistrate appears on the balcony to condemn Alban to death. As Alban is led away, a spring of water (the Holy Well) appears – courtesy of Herts Fire and Rescue this time! The route continues along the High Street, George Street and Romeland to the West entrance of the cathedral where the execution takes place at 12 noon.

This activity will be led by Group member and local resident Jeremy Fraser-Mitchell ARPS in order to obtain the best positioning for photography.

The Photographic Adventures of a Duchess

Join us as we share in the adventures of Margaret Flo McEwan visiting some unusual places with her camera.

Described as inspirational, humorous, adventurous, humble about her truly unique talent as a photographer, Flo’s presentations are a “must see” for anyone looking to learn about the Maunsell Seaforts or for inspiration and a different perspective on photography.

The benefits of joining the Travel Group

All RPS members are welcome to join the Travel Group.

The Group was formed in 1990 to promote the enjoyment and understanding of travel photography: of trying to capture the spirit of places we visit and, through photography, sharing that spirit with others. The Group provides a forum where members can improve their knowledge and exchange views regarding travel photography and related issues.

The Group is at its liveliest and most effective when there is discussion involving a wide range of members.

Travel Log Each member of the Travel Group receives the group’s publication - Travel Log -twice a year.
JRNY magazine digital subscription Every member of the Group is entitled to a complimentary digital subscription to JRNY
Lively discussion Regular Share and Chat sessions online where members from all over the world share images and experiences
Annual Event There is an Annual Event where wellknown photographers with recognised skills in Travel Photography are invited to speak.
Specially organised photographic trips We believe shared experiences are important and a number of trips of differing durations are organised each year
Online presentations The Group organizes a number of online presentations where Travel Photography professionals, Group members and othersshare their skills and experiences
e-news The Travel Group e-news is published about six times a year with news of members' achievements and activities.
