About this image

The famous Ribblehead Viaduct has twenty-four arches spanning the floor of the Pennines. The viaduct represents a short stretch of the 72 mile long Settle to Carlisle railway. Built between 1870 and 1875, the viaduct runs for some 440 yards above the valley floor. Shame I couldn't get a steam train crossing but had to wait nearly an hour (whilst eating our sandwiches!) for this train to cross the viaduct.
