About this image

Extreme close-up view of the head of a weevil. There are over 40,000 species of true weevils in the family Circulionidae, beetle-like creatures typified by a long snout and clubbed antennae. This is part of a series investigating our often-overlooked housemates, a result of the expansion of our habitat into rural areas. The image is a composite of light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. School for Art and Design, East Carolina University, Greenville, USA.
