About this image

Composite of 20 images of human irises. The colour and structure of the iris is as individual to a person as their fingerprints. Indeed, iris recognition is used in many security applications. The images were captured using a slit lamp camera – a flash passes through a thin directional slit to create a very narrow sheet of light that passes over the iris from the side and the image recorded on a Canon 50D digital SLR. The individual images were then assembled in an image editing program. Digital Institute for Science and Medicine, Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
