About this album
A series of 12 impressionist vignettes of real life, taken at the same instant on Brighton beach. (Loosely inspired by Seurat’s Bathers at Asnieres and pointillism). 12 groups of people, 12 different parallel stories.
I can’t paint! So this started off as an experiment, to see if I can recreate Impressionist art, using photography as the basis. Working through these, I realised how much expression and body language is inherent in each of these vignettes, and how easily it comes across without relying on photographic accuracy. Light, shadow and contrast is enough to tell a story. Each vignette was extracted from the same 12MP picture shot, cropped and processed through PaintShop Pro, to create the effect.
