The Award
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award has been challenging young people across the world for 50 years, and in that time more than 5 million young people have taken part. It sets out to challenge young people in a number of different ways, this includes taking up an activity that may prove to be a life-long interest, or even a route to a career.
The courses have attracted young people from across the U.K. and as far a field as Malta. Many have gone on to hone their skills in photography at college or university and one even became a full time photographer working for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
In July 2006 we held our eleventh photography residential in Bath and twenty Gold Award Participants attended. The majority of the Participants had limited experience of using a digital camera and Photoshop before the course but with the tuition of our two photographers they learnt how to compose photographs, manipulate images in Photoshop and set up an exhibition of their work. All 20 participants produced at least two images to show in the exhibition which was held in the RPS, the standard of photography was exceptionally high.
Our thanks must go to Epson; Permajet; The Royal Photographic Society – in particular Liz Williams, Commercial Manager; our Photographers Simon Dale and Fergus Burnett all of whom have made this course possible.
